Artist Biography

Robert Lue Bennett, raised as a Southern gentleman in the Carolinas, devoted his formative years to expressing his creativity through every canvas he encountered. Bennett's love for painting began at the age of 4, later honing his talent under the guidance of Harry and Dee Hansen (University of South Carolina), combining formal training with a deep-rooted passion for the craft. Throughout his career, Bennett has garnered numerous accolades, including being the inaugural recipient of the Betty Gilbert Memorial Award and winning multiple prizes at the South Carolina State Fair.

After serving in the Navy and traveling the globe, Bennett drew inspiration from the breathtaking beauty of the Black Hills, where he chose to permanently settle and fully immerse himself in his passion for painting. His artwork, primarily featuring animals and landscapes in acrylic and watercolor, showcases his profound appreciation for nature and its inhabitants, as well as the joy of spending quality time with his dog, Luna.

Bennett's artwork has been prominently exhibited in galleries throughout the United States, including the prestigious Collective Visions in Bremerton, WA. His work has gained international recognition, appearing in various publications, as well as being the first artist featured in the esteemed Modern Art Talk interview series. Bennett has also imparted his expertise by teaching painting classes with organizations such as Paint Nite and Painting with a Twist. Furthermore, Bennett served as a faculty member for Audience Engagement at the Rushmore Music Festival, where he conducted art classes designed to help music students explore deeper forms of expression. This role provided him the unique opportunity to paint live during a performance by nine-time GRAMMY Award-winning violinist Philip Setzer of the Emerson String Quartet. In addition to his accomplishments as a painter, he is a gifted illustrator of children's books.
